Croatia’s Dalmatian coast is a string of stone towns on clear blue water. Dubrovnik is ringed by medieval walls, Split’s old town lives inside a Roman emperor’s palace, and offshore lie islands such as Hvar and Brač, reached by fast catamarans. Inland, the national parks of Plitvice and Krka are all turquoise lakes, waterfalls and wooden walkways.
A typical trip runs along the coast from Zagreb or Zadar to Dubrovnik, with stops at Plitvice and Krka, a few nights in Split and an island day. Croatia combines well with Slovenia’s Lake Bled, with Venice, or with Montenegro’s Bay of Kotor just south of Dubrovnik.
It is a natural choice for honeymooners, families who like the sea, and travellers who prefer a slower, sunnier Europe. Mediterranean food means pasta, pizza, risotto and grilled vegetables are easy everywhere, and we arrange Indian meals where available along the route. Distances are short, so even a relaxed itinerary covers a great deal.
