Eiffel Tower
Paris
Paris's iron landmark, built for the 1889 World's Fair, with lifts to a summit platform high above the Seine.
Discover : Eiffel Tower
For most first-time visitors France begins and ends in Paris, and there is plenty to fill five days: the Eiffel Tower and a Seine cruise, the Louvre and the Musée d'Orsay, the hilltop lanes of Montmartre and a day at the Palace of Versailles. Families add Disneyland Paris, under an hour away by train; honeymooners add a dinner cruise and an evening at the top of the tower.
With more time, take the high-speed TGV south to the French Riviera for Nice, the hill village of Èze and a day in Monaco, or head west to the châteaux of the Loire Valley. Paris is also the easiest hub for a wider trip: Eurostar trains reach London and Brussels, and TGV Lyria trains cross to Geneva and Zurich in a few hours.
Indian restaurants are easy to find, especially around Gare du Nord, and bakeries and cafés make vegetarian lunches simple. We book timed entries for the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre and Versailles so you spend your days sightseeing rather than queueing.
