Langkawi, Malaysia
A steep cable car ride up Gunung Mat Cincang to a curved walkway hanging above the rainforest, with views over the Andaman Sea.
The Langkawi SkyCab climbs from the Oriental Village at the foot of Gunung Mat Cincang to the mountain’s summit, one of the steepest cable car rides anywhere. From the top stations you look out over rainforest, waterfalls, the Andaman Sea and the scattered islands around Langkawi.
Near the top, the Sky Bridge is a curved pedestrian bridge suspended from a single pylon high above the jungle. You can walk down to it or ride the SkyGlide, an inclined lift. Back at the base, the Oriental Village has shops, cafés and a few smaller attractions.
Go first thing in the morning, when the views are clearest and the queues shortest. The cable car and bridge close in strong wind or storms, so we keep this day flexible. Anyone uneasy with heights can enjoy the views from the enclosed viewing platforms instead.
