Suva City Tour

Suva, on the south-east coast of Viti Levu, is Fiji's capital and its busiest port. It feels quite different from the resort areas around Nadi: a working city of government buildings, university students, church spires and bustling markets.

The Fiji Museum in Thurston Gardens tells the islands' story through great outrigger canoes, Lapita pottery and a gallery on the Indo-Fijian community. Nearby, the white colonial Grand Pacific Hotel faces the harbour, and the municipal market is piled with tropical fruit, spices and kava root.

Suva is around four hours' drive from Nadi along the Coral Coast, so we suggest an overnight stay or a short domestic flight rather than a long day trip. Expect more rain on this side of the island, and carry an umbrella.
