Garden of the Sleeping Giant

Set at the foot of the Nausori Highlands, whose outline is said to resemble a giant lying asleep, this garden was started in the 1970s by the Hollywood actor Raymond Burr to house his orchid collection. Today it shelters hundreds of orchid varieties among rainforest, lily ponds and shaded boardwalks.

The paths are flat and easy, and a full loop takes about an hour, which makes it a good choice for senior travellers and a calm contrast to beach days. Early morning is the coolest time to visit, when the birdsong is at its best.

The garden is about 20 minutes' drive from Nadi and pairs naturally with the Sabeto mud pool and hot springs just down the road. Bring insect repellent, especially after rain.
