Turkey

Where Europe meets Asia across the Bosphorus

Overview

Why visit Turkey?

Turkey packs an astonishing range into one trip. Istanbul straddles two continents, with Byzantine churches, Ottoman palaces and covered bazaars on one side of the Bosphorus and leafy waterfront neighbourhoods on the other. A short flight away, Cappadocia’s valleys of soft volcanic rock are dotted with cave homes and, at sunrise, filled with drifting hot-air balloons.

Further west, the Aegean coast adds the marble streets of Ephesus and the white travertine pools of Pamukkale. Most of our travellers spend three or four nights in Istanbul, two in a Cappadocia cave hotel and two on the Ephesus–Pamukkale side, linked by short domestic flights so that nobody spends a day on the road.

Turkey suits families, couples and senior travellers alike, and the food is friendlier to vegetarians than many expect: mezze, cheese pide, lentil soup and fresh bread are everywhere. We plan the pace around you, pre-arrange vegetarian and Jain meals where needed, and keep a spare morning in Cappadocia in case the balloons are grounded by wind.

Good to know

Planning a trip to Turkey

Do Indian passport holders need a visa for Turkey?

Yes. Turkey is not part of the Schengen area, so a Schengen visa alone does not cover it, and a Turkish visa must be arranged before you fly. Depending on the other visas you already hold, you may qualify for an online e-Visa or need to apply through the visa centre; we check which route applies and help with the paperwork.

How many days do we need to see Istanbul and Cappadocia?

Allow at least three nights in Istanbul and two in Cappadocia. With seven to nine days you can add Pamukkale and Ephesus as well, using short domestic flights between regions.

Is vegetarian food easy to find in Turkey?

Yes, especially in Istanbul. Mezze such as hummus, stuffed vine leaves and grilled vegetables, cheese pide and lentil soup are widely available, and Istanbul has several Indian restaurants. We brief hotels on vegetarian and Jain requirements in advance.

What currency is used, and are cards accepted?

Turkey uses the Turkish lira. Cards are accepted in hotels, restaurants and most shops, but carry some cash for bazaars, tips and small cafés.
