Marina Bay, Singapore
Singapore’s half-lion, half-fish emblem spouting water into Marina Bay, with the city lights reflected in the water behind it.
The Merlion, with the head of a lion and the body of a fish, is the symbol of Singapore, and its statue at Merlion Park is the city’s classic photo stop. It stands at the mouth of the Singapore River, sending a steady arc of water into Marina Bay, with the Marina Bay Sands towers directly opposite.
The promenade around it links up with the waterfront walk past the Esplanade theatres and the Fullerton Hotel, so it fits easily into an evening stroll around the bay. After dark the skyline is reflected in the water, and you can watch the Spectra show across the bay from here.
Come early in the morning for photos without crowds, or after sunset for the lights. A bumboat cruise from nearby Clarke Quay passes the Merlion and is a relaxed way to see the old riverside warehouses.
