Tsim Sha Tsui and Central, Hong Kong
A ride on the historic Star Ferry across one of the world’s great harbours, and the nightly Symphony of Lights over the skyline.
The green-and-white boats of the Star Ferry have crossed Victoria Harbour between Kowloon and Hong Kong Island since the 19th century, and the ten-minute ride from Tsim Sha Tsui to Central is still the best way to see the skyline at water level.
On the Kowloon side, the waterfront promenade and the Avenue of Stars face the towers of Hong Kong Island. At 8 pm each evening the Symphony of Lights sets dozens of buildings flashing in time to music, and harbour cruises on a red-sailed junk offer another view.
Take the ferry by day and come back for the evening show. The upper deck has the best views, and the promenade is a pleasant place to watch the lights with an ice cream.
