Macau, Hong Kong
A vast resort on the Cotai Strip with indoor Venetian canals, gondola rides beneath a painted sky and hundreds of shops.
Modelled on Venice, the Venetian Macao is one of the largest resorts in Asia. Its Grand Canal Shoppes recreate Venetian streets and canals indoors, under a ceiling painted as a permanent evening sky, with gondoliers singing as they punt visitors along. The resort also has a large arena for concerts and sporting events.
Around it, the Cotai Strip is lined with themed resorts, including the Parisian Macao with its half-size Eiffel Tower, alongside shows, restaurants and shopping malls. At night, the façades light up in a blaze of colour.
Families can easily spend an afternoon here without going near the casinos. Combine it with Macau’s old town in a full day, or stay overnight to see Cotai at its brightest. Hotel shuttle buses link the Cotai resorts with the ferry terminals and border crossings.
