Mount Titlis

Mount Titlis rises above the monastery village of Engelberg, about an hour from Lucerne by train. A series of cable cars carries you up to more than 3,000 metres, and on the final stretch the Rotair cabin turns a full circle so everyone gets the view.

At the top there is snow all year. Cross the Titlis Cliff Walk, a suspension bridge strung along the rock face high above the valley, walk through the blue-lit Glacier Cave, and in summer ride the Ice Flyer chairlift over the glacier.

Titlis is a good alternative to the Jungfraujoch when you are based in Lucerne, and many families do both. Start early, before the midday groups arrive, and carry gloves for the snow.
