Pokhara, Nepal
A hilltop above Pokhara where first light turns the Annapurna range and Machhapuchhre gold, and paragliders take off later in the day.
Sarangkot is a ridge just above Pokhara with one of the finest views of the Himalaya in Nepal. On a clear morning, the long line of the Annapurna range and the pointed peak of Machhapuchhre glow pink and then gold as the sun rises, while Phewa Lake and the valley lie in shadow below.
You drive up before dawn, with a short walk to the viewing terraces at the top, and watch the light spread across the peaks. Later in the morning, Sarangkot becomes Pokhara’s main take-off point for tandem paragliding flights over the lake, a thrill for adventurous travellers.
It is cold up here before sunrise, so bring a warm jacket. October to December usually gives the clearest skies, while in the monsoon months the mountains are often hidden. We check the forecast and keep this flexible during your stay.
