Himalayan sunrises, sacred temples and lakeside calm
Nepal is the gateway to the Himalaya, and you do not have to be a trekker to enjoy it. The Kathmandu Valley is crowded with temples, stupas and medieval squares, from the sacred Pashupatinath Temple to the great white dome of Boudhanath; Pokhara, beside the calm water of Phewa Lake, looks straight up at the Annapurna range; and in the lowlands, Chitwan National Park is home to one-horned rhinos.
For Indian travellers it is one of the easiest trips abroad. No visa is needed, flights are short, Hindi is widely understood and vegetarian food is everywhere. Pashupatinath is among the most important Shiva temples for Hindus, and many visitors add a pilgrimage to Muktinath or Janakpur.
A week covers Kathmandu, Pokhara and Chitwan comfortably, with private transfers or short domestic flights between them. We plan around the seasons, choosing clear-sky months for the best mountain views, and can add an early-morning scenic flight past Everest from Kathmandu.
