Maldives Sunset Fishing Trip

Fishing is woven into Maldivian life, and the traditional method is simple: a weighted hand line, no rod, dropped over the reef edge as the light fades. Resort crews take small groups out on a dhoni and show you how to feel for a bite. The crew bait the lines and handle the fish, so no experience is needed.

Snapper, grouper and jackfish are common catches, and most resorts will cook yours for dinner if you wish. Vegetarian travellers often join just for the sunset, the stars and the sea air, and the crew are happy to share island stories.

Trips last around two hours. Children enjoy it too, with life jackets on board; bring a light jacket and insect repellent.
