For resorts in the more distant atolls, the journey is part of the holiday. Seaplanes take off from a dedicated terminal beside Malé airport and fly low over a scatter of reefs, sandbanks and island resorts, landing on the lagoon at a floating platform where the resort boat or jetty is waiting.
