Kungsholmen, Stockholm, Sweden
The red-brick City Hall on the water, where the Nobel Prize banquet is held, topped by a tower with three golden crowns.
Completed in 1923, Stockholm City Hall stands at the water’s edge on the island of Kungsholmen, its tall brick tower crowned with three golden crowns. It is the venue of the annual Nobel Prize banquet, held each December in the vast Blue Hall.
Guided tours take you through the Blue Hall and the dazzling Golden Hall, whose walls are covered in millions of gold mosaic pieces. In summer you can climb the tower for one of the best views over Gamla Stan and the water.
Tours run at set times, so we book them in advance. The waterside gardens are a lovely spot for photographs of the Old Town across the bay. Even without a tour, the waterfront terrace and courtyard are worth a stroll.
