Lapland Reindeer Sleigh Ride

Reindeer herding has been a way of life in Lapland for centuries, and a visit to a reindeer farm is a gentle, memorable experience. Herders introduce their animals and their traditions, then you settle into a sleigh wrapped in reindeer skins for a quiet ride through the snowy forest.

Afterwards, feed the reindeer, warm up with hot juice inside a traditional wooden hut, and receive a light-hearted “reindeer driving licence” to take home.

The pace is calm and the ride is short, so it suits every age, from toddlers to grandparents. In December, many farms add a visit to Santa’s helpers, and photographs with the reindeer are always welcome. Some farms are run by Sámi families, who share stories of life with their reindeer through the seasons.
