Wattens, near Innsbruck, Austria
Swarovski’s fantasy museum, entered through a grass-covered giant’s head, with crystal art rooms, gardens and a play tower.
Swarovski Crystal Worlds, or Swarovski Kristallwelten, was created by the crystal company in its home town of Wattens. You enter through a grass-covered hill shaped like a giant’s head, with water pouring from its mouth into a pool, and inside a series of Chambers of Wonder use crystal, light and sound in imaginative installations.
Outside, the gardens hold a crystal cloud of thousands of crystals above a reflecting pool, and a play tower and playground keep children busy. The large flagship store is popular for gifts.
It is about twenty minutes by road from Innsbruck, and fits into a half day alongside the old town. It works in any weather, so it is a good choice for a rainy day in Tyrol.
