Cross a swaying footbridge 70 metres above the Capilano River, then explore treetop walkways and a cliffside path.
First built in 1889, the Capilano Suspension Bridge stretches about 140 metres across a canyon, 70 metres above the river, swaying gently as you cross. The park around it protects towering Douglas firs and cedars in North Vancouver's temperate rainforest.
Beyond the main bridge, Treetops Adventure links a series of smaller suspension bridges between the trees, and the Cliffwalk follows narrow walkways bolted to the granite canyon wall. Those nervous of heights can enjoy the forest from the ground-level paths and the totem poles near the entrance. Most visitors spend two to three hours here.
A shuttle bus runs from downtown Vancouver. Arrive early to cross the bridge before the tour groups. In winter, the park is strung with thousands of lights for its Canyon Lights season, which children love.
