Banff Gondola

The Banff Gondola lifts you up Sulphur Mountain in about eight minutes, to a summit building with viewing decks, a restaurant and an interpretive centre. From the top, a boardwalk follows the ridge to a historic weather station on Sanson's Peak.

It is an effortless way to experience the high Rockies and suits all ages, though it is cold and windy at the top even in summer, so bring a warm layer. Look out for bighorn sheep on the slopes and for the town of Banff spread out far below.

Back at the base, the Banff Upper Hot Springs are a short walk away for a soak with mountain views. Banff Avenue, the town's main street, has plenty of restaurants, including Indian ones, and shops for warm clothing.
