Coral Island, Pattaya

Koh Larn, better known to visitors as Coral Island, lies a short hop off the coast of Pattaya. Its beaches, such as Tawaen and Samae, have much clearer water than the city shore, and are lined with sunbeds, umbrellas and simple restaurants.

Most day trips go by speedboat, with a stop on the way for parasailing over the bay; sea walking, banana boats and jet skis are on offer on the island. Families can simply swim and relax, while groups of friends usually try a few activities.

Go in the morning, when the sea is calmer and the beaches are quieter, and carry some cash for small purchases on the island. Pack swimwear, a towel and sunscreen, and keep phones in a waterproof pouch for the boat ride.
