About Bukchon Hanok Village

Bukchon, between Gyeongbokgung and Changdeokgung palaces, is a neighbourhood of hundreds of hanok, traditional Korean houses with curved tiled roofs, wooden beams and inner courtyards. Many are still family homes, while others hold tea houses, craft studios and guesthouses.

The best views are from the steep alleys at the top of the village, where tiled rooftops tumble downhill towards the towers of central Seoul. Small museums and workshops offer knot-tying and other traditional crafts. Traditional tea houses in the lanes serve a peaceful cup of Korean tea.

Because people live here, keep voices low, and note that visits to parts of the village are now limited to daytime hours. We plan it for late morning, combined with Gyeongbokgung and the craft shops of Insadong.
