Garden Route and Knysna

The Garden Route runs along South Africa’s southern coast between Mossel Bay and the Storms River, squeezed between the Indian Ocean and a line of forested mountains. Knysna, at its heart, sits on a wide lagoon guarded at the sea by two sandstone cliffs known as the Heads.

Take a lagoon cruise or drive up to the Heads viewpoint, then explore the beaches of Plettenberg Bay, the suspension bridge over the Storms River Mouth in Tsitsikamma, or the ostrich farms and Cango Caves inland at Oudtshoorn. Adventurous travellers can try the bungee jump from Bloukrans Bridge.

Allow at least two or three nights. The Garden Route can be driven from Cape Town over a few days, or reached by a short flight to George.
