About Boulders Beach Penguin Colony

Boulders Beach is a sheltered cove of white sand and huge rounded granite boulders near the naval town of Simon’s Town, home to a colony of endangered African penguins. The birds nest in the bushes behind the beach and spend their days swimming and sunning themselves on the sand.

Wooden boardwalks lead to viewing platforms right above the colony, so you can watch the penguins at close range without disturbing them. Children love it, and at the adjoining swimming beach a penguin or two may share the water with you.

Visit in the morning, before the tour coaches arrive, and do not try to touch or feed the birds, as they can bite. It fits neatly into a Cape Peninsula day with Cape Point.
