Khasab, Musandam, Oman
A day aboard a traditional dhow among the steep fjords of Musandam, with dolphins, snorkelling and swims in clear water.
Musandam is Oman’s northern tip, a rugged peninsula separated from the rest of the country by the UAE. Its mountains plunge straight into the sea, forming deep inlets, or khors, that have earned it the nickname “the Norway of Arabia”.
Cruises leave Khasab on carpeted dhows and sail into Khor Ash Sham, past fishing villages reachable only by boat. Dolphins often swim alongside, and the dhow stops at Telegraph Island and quiet coves for snorkelling and swimming, with lunch served on board. The water in the fjords is usually calm and clear, ideal for nervous swimmers.
Musandam works as a long day trip by road from Dubai, crossing the border near Ras Al Khaimah, so carry your passport. Non-swimmers can relax on deck, and life jackets are provided.
