About Alhambra
The Alhambra rises on a hill above Granada with the Sierra Nevada behind it. Built mainly in the 13th and 14th centuries by the Nasrid dynasty, the last Muslim rulers in Spain, its palaces are a world of carved stucco, painted tiles and reflecting pools.
The Nasrid Palaces, including the Court of the Lions, are the highlight. The Alcazaba fortress has the best views, and the Generalife gardens are cooled by fountains and channels of running water.
Entry to the Nasrid Palaces is at a fixed time printed on your ticket, and tickets sell out weeks ahead, so we book as soon as your dates are firm. At sunset, the Mirador de San Nicolás in the Albaicín quarter has the classic view of the Alhambra glowing red.
