Amalfi Coast and Positano

South of Naples, the Amalfi Coast is a UNESCO-listed stretch of cliffs where villages cling to the rock above the sea. Positano tumbles down to its beach in tiers of pink and yellow houses, Amalfi has a striped medieval cathedral, and Ravello, high above, has gardens with sweeping views.

The coast road is famous for its hairpin bends, so we arrange a private driver, or in summer you can travel between towns by ferry. A boat day to the island of Capri and a visit to the ruins of Pompeii are easy to add.

Stay two or three nights in Positano, Amalfi or Sorrento. The beaches are pebbly and the towns are full of steps, so the coast suits honeymooners and active couples more than travellers with limited mobility.
