Brightly painted corrugated-metal houses in blue, green, yellow and red along a street in La Boca

Buenos Aires, Argentina

Caminito in La Boca

A short, colourful street of painted metal houses in the old port district, alive with tango dancers and street artists.

Culture & heritage

About Caminito in La Boca

La Boca grew up around the old port of Buenos Aires, where immigrant families, many from Italy, built houses from corrugated metal and painted them with paint left over from the shipyards. Caminito, a short pedestrian street, keeps that look alive in bright blues, yellows and reds.

Tango dancers perform outside the cafés, artists sell paintings and souvenirs, and murals cover the walls. Football fans can visit La Bombonera, the stadium of Boca Juniors, a few blocks away, along with its club museum.

Visit during the day and stay within the main tourist streets; we include La Boca on a guided city tour. In the evening, a tango dinner show elsewhere in the city is the perfect follow-up, with vegetarian menus available on request.
