About Hazrati Imam Complex Tashkent

The Hazrati Imam complex grew up around the tomb of a 10th-century scholar in the old town of Tashkent. Today it brings together a large Friday mosque with turquoise domes and twin minarets, the 16th-century Barak-Khan Madrasah and the Muyi Mubarak library.

The library’s great treasure is the Uthman Quran, a very early manuscript traditionally linked to the third caliph, Uthman, displayed under glass in a quiet room. The madrasah courtyard is lined with workshops where craftsmen sell miniature paintings, wood carving and embroidery.

Dress modestly, as this is an active place of worship, and avoid Friday prayer times; women may wish to carry a scarf to cover their hair. Chorsu Bazaar is a short drive away, and the two make a good morning together.
