South Coast, Kenya
A long white-sand beach on Kenya’s Indian Ocean coast, lined with palms and resorts, ideal for unwinding after a safari.
Diani Beach stretches for kilometres along the coast south of Mombasa, with powdery white sand, palm trees and warm, clear water sheltered by an offshore reef. It is Kenya’s favourite beach for a few lazy days after the dust of the safari.
Spend your time swimming and relaxing at the resort, take a dhow trip to snorkel in the Kisite-Mpunguti Marine Park, where dolphins are often seen, or try kitesurfing on the steady breezes. Colobus monkeys live in the coastal forest behind the beach.
Diani is about an hour’s flight from Nairobi to Ukunda, or a train ride from Nairobi to Mombasa followed by a drive. The tide goes out a long way, so time swims and snorkelling with high tide.
