Prague, Czech Republic
The heart of medieval Prague, with the twin spires of the Týn Church and the famous fifteenth-century Astronomical Clock.
Old Town Square has been Prague’s main marketplace since the Middle Ages. It is framed by pastel Baroque houses, the twin Gothic spires of the Church of Our Lady before Týn and the Old Town Hall, whose Astronomical Clock was first installed in 1410.
Every hour during the day, crowds gather beneath the clock to watch the procession of the Twelve Apostles in its small windows. For a view over the square’s rooftops, take the lift up the Old Town Hall tower.
The square is the starting point for walks through the Old Town and the Jewish Quarter, and in December and at Easter it hosts Prague’s best-known markets. Keep an eye on bags in the crowds around the clock.
